MAY 2008: "Get That Fresh 'Sex' Look". The fabulously fashionable foursome are back, primed to weave their way through the American woman's wardrobe again. USA TODAY'S Olivia Barker checked out one of the original sources of Sex and the City style, Henri Bendel, and asked the company's fashion director, Ann Watson, to re-create the new largely evolved looks of Carrie and company as paraded in the movie.
Street to catwalk
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) "used to be the queen mixing and matching, and now she's more refined - a little bit more couture," Watson says. Still, as with quintessential TV series Carrie, movie Carrie is "all about the (over-the-top) accessories" - a walnut-sized ring, for example, and a cheeky-chic bag.

Sultry to sophisticated
"Samantha (Kim Cattrall) has become more refined, slightly more elegant," Watson says. "She doesn't have to show it off as much as she used to." Hence, the idea of retooled, client meeting suit for the PR powerhouse is "fantastic... Samantha is about flattering her silhouette," so the long, lean line complements. But she hasn't toned down everything: A gold detail or two is still de rigueur.

Sweetly chic
Charlotte (Kristin Davis) did, and does, epitomize uptown traditionalism. "Because her fashion sensibility is more classic, it doesn't change with the trends as much," Watson says. "Pick a feminine, pretty dress" in a cheery spring color "and small delicate jewelry."

Frumpy to foxy
As a lawyer and then a mom who - gasp! - moved across the East river, "Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) really never had a strong sense of fashion," Watson says. Now that Brooklyn moms embody a certain kind of cool, Miranda is "more confident in her fashion sensibility. She's softer, she's more elegant." To model her look, think bold, geometric prints. Maybe she can't wear such a dress to court, "but she can still wear it to the office," coupled with a practical bag.
